Malicious Website

ECU uses data from the Cisco Talos IP and Domain Reputation Center to determine websites that are a security threat.

To see why this site is considered malicious and your access blocked on the ECU network, enter the URL into the Talos File Reputation Disposition Search box.

New domains are also blocked on the ECU network

As a precaution, newly-created domains are also blocked on the ECU network until the security evaluation is complete, usually within 24-48 hours. If the site is cleared as non-malicious, the block is removed, and you are free to access the site.

This includes domains you create! If you attempt to access your new domain from the ECU network or your ECU-managed device, it will be blocked until it is cleared as non-malicious.

Follow these tips to avoid becoming a victim

Not very often, but occasionally, a malicious domain will not be blocked, and we count on our users to follow these guides to avoid being a victim.

  1. Use an antivirus and malware software as well as a firewall. ECU recommends Windows Defender or Apple iProtect, both free, or any antivirus from a reputable vendor. Keep virus definitions updated.
  2. Regularly install the latest patches and updates for your operating system and software.
  3. Never click links or enter personal information within unknown sites, pop ups or emails.
  4. Forward suspected phishing emails to phish@ecu.edu.
