Mobile Device Management – Microsoft Intune
We all enjoy the convenience of information access through most any device: office computers, laptops, tablets and mobile phones, both personal and university-purchased. However, we also balance this access with one of our most important responsibilities at ECU, data security.
ITCS assists users in minimizing the risk of a data breach while enabling “anywhere productivity” by implementing standard security protections that follow state and federal mandates. Two of these standards are Mobile Device Management (MDM) and Mobile App Management (MAM).
Mobile Device Management (MDM)
MDM configures certain security settings on a personal or ECU-owned mobile device to allow access to sensitive ECU data. Examples of devices that might require MDM include:
- Department laptop/tablet carts where devices are checked out or used by many members. If your department maintains shared devices, contact the IT Help Desk to get started with Intune MDM
- A personal mobile device that accesses sensitive or protected information. Enroll your device into Microsoft Intune by following these instructions from Microsoft. Available for Windows, Mac, Android and iOS.
ECU’s current MDM product, is Microsoft Intune.
Mobile App Management
MAM allows departments to lock down certain applications to comply with security policies. For example, MAM could be used to prevent attachment downloads from Outlook. ITCS is testing this feature with ECU systems over the next few months.
