Canvas OneDrive Upgrade

As part of our ongoing commitment to provide you with the best tools for instruction and student collaboration, we’re excited to introduce our Canvas OneDrive Upgrade.  This upgrade will offer more robust features that allow adding existing documents into Collaborations, as well as the option to embed or link to documents, videos, or other materials. 

Here’s what you can expect from the upcoming Microsoft OneDrive upgrade:

The upgrade allows access to the user’s OneDrive, which makes utilizing your folders and materials convenient.

Using Collaborations with your students will be more efficient, with your current documents available and the ability to create new materials.  You will also enjoy real-time co-authoring and commenting, enabling seamless teamwork on documents within Canvas.

The upgraded Microsoft OneDrive will offer improved integration with Canvas, making it easier to access, upload, and share files directly within your course.

When will the Microsoft OneDrive upgrade be available?

The Microsoft OneDrive upgrade will be rolled out on May 7, 2024. We’ll provide reminder notifications to ensure a smooth transition.

Will I need to take any action to access the upgraded Microsoft OneDrive?

The upgrade will be seamlessly integrated into your existing OneDrive experience.

Will my existing files and data be affected by the upgrade?

Your existing files and data will remain intact; however, you will need to link any documents to the new Microsoft OneDrive for access. You will still have access to all your files and folders stored in your personal OneDrive.

How will the changes affect course copies?

If you copy courses with links to the previous Microsoft Office 365 OneDrive, you will need to create new links to the updated resource after the course copy is completed. 

What happens to materials that I have available for students with an Incomplete in my course?

Those materials will need to be linked again if you previously had them linked to the old Microsoft Office 365.  The process of linking to the new Microsoft OneDrive is the same.

Will there be any downtime during the upgrade process?

There should not be any periods of downtime as we implement the changes.

Can I continue using Microsoft OneDrive in the same way after the upgrade?

Yes. The upgraded Microsoft OneDrive will retain all the core functionalities you’re familiar with while allowing access to your personal OneDrive as well as folders or documents shared with you.

Will there be training resources available to help me get acquainted with the upgraded features?

Yes. You will be able to request training, as needed.

Will I be able to use Microsoft OneDrive in any Canvas course?

Yes. You should be able to use Microsoft OneDrive in any Canvas course.
