Device Updates Required Before March 8

Just as you have a trusted PirateID username account that allows you access to ECU® resources, your device also has a trust certificate that allows connectivity to secure websites when connected to the ECU eduroam network.

Certificate Authority (CA) root certificates are an industry standard that protect our network, users and digital data, including sensitive information.

WE NEED YOUR HELP

re-onboarding your personal computers and mobile devices to eduroam
between now and Sunday, March 8.

Once completed, this two-minute process ensures your devices have up-to-date security and compatibility with modern systems.

  • ECU-managed devices. Automatic updates. You don’t need to do anything.
  • Personal (BYOD) devices. You need to manually re-onboard your personal laptops and mobile devices for uninterrupted eduroam connectivity between now and Sunday, March 8.
  • This applies to students, faculty and staff on both Main campus and the Health Sciences campus.
  • After March 8, devices not re-onboarded will have no internet access with eduroam until the re-onboarding process is complete. NOTE: This process does not affect access to the public ECU Wi-Fi network.

What you need to do

To manually re-onboard your personal devices to the eduroam network, follow these steps. For step-by-step instructions for each OS, visit go.ecu.edu/onboard-to-eduroam or see this Quick Reference Re-onboard to eduroam poster – accessible 2-23-26.

Personal devices include wired or wireless laptop and desktop computers, tablets and mobile phones.

  1. Complete this process on or off campus.
  2. Go to network settings and delete (or forget) the eduroam network. This is especially critical for iOS devices. See this specific iOS tutorial.
  3. Join the ecu-wifi network or use your cell service to complete step 4.
  4. Navigate to onboard.ecu.edu. The ECU Network Configuration Utility opens for your operating system.
  5. Click JoinNow, then follow the dialog boxes to complete the onboarding process.
  6. Complete before March 8 for continued access to eduroam.
