Stay Onboard!

Network Changes Happening March 19

Certificate Authority (CA) root certificates are an industry standard that protect our network, users and digital data. They play a crucial role in validating a website’s identity and, therefore, its safety.

We are now in the final stages of updating all CA root certificates and will complete the final cutover by Thursday, March 19. This applies to students, faculty and staff on both Main campus and the Health Sciences campus. This process does not affect access to the public ECU Wi-Fi network.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU

Personal Devices (all users)

If you use your personal devices for school or work and were unable to re-onboard to the eduroam network before March 8, please do so at your earliest convenience before Thursday, March 19, for uninterrupted network connectivity. This includes personal computers, laptops, tablets and phones.

See below for step-by-step instructions to manually re-onboard your personal computers and mobile devices to eduroam.

ECU-Managed Devices (faculty and staff)

Final network changes happen Thursday, March 19 for both campuses.

Most ECU-managed devices (faculty and staff computers) should be fine. However, if you have network issues on or after the 19th:

  1. Reboot your device ECU-managed device.
  2. If rebooting doesn’t restore network connectivity:
    • Call the IT Service Desk at 252-328-9866
    • Visit your nearest Pirate Techs campus location
    • Contact your department IT support
    • Submit a Network Support request.

What you need to do

ECU-managed devices may need a reboot – no need to re-onboard to eduroam. For personal computers and mobile devices, users need to manually re-onboard to the eduroam network.

For step-by-step instructions for each OS, visit go.ecu.edu/onboard-to-eduroam or see this Quick Reference Re-onboard to eduroam poster – accessible 2-23-26.

Personal devices include wired or wireless laptop and desktop computers, tablets and mobile phones.

  1. Complete this process on or off campus.
  2. Windows users go to network settings and delete the eduroam network.
  3. macOS users must delete their current certificate before updating. See this specific iOS tutorial.
  4. Join the ecu-wifi network or use your cell service to complete step 5.
  5. Navigate to onboard.ecu.edu. The ECU Network Configuration Utility opens for your operating system.
  6. Click JoinNow, then follow the dialog boxes to complete the onboarding process.
